Is there ever a chance to reverse the situation?[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;5656&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; add_caption=&#8221;yes&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221;][vc_column_text]\r\n<p id=\"5313\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jf jg ii jh b ji jj jk jl jm jn jo jp jq jr js jt ju jv jw jx jy jz ka kb kc ib gj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><a class=\"au ks\" href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/newsroom\/press-releases\/2021\/one-way-travel-time-to-work-rises.html#:~:text=In%202019%2C%20the%20average%20one,about%2010%25%20over%2014%20years.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\">Statistics<\/a>\u00a0in the U.S. before the pandemic shows that an employee would take more than 27 minutes on average to get to work. In the UK,\u00a0<a class=\"au ks\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lloydsbankinggroup.com\/media\/press-releases\/2019\/lloyds-bank\/british-workers-spend-492-days-of-their-lives-travelling-into-work.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener ugc nofollow\">this number<\/a>\u00a0is over 60 minutes, more than double.<\/p>\r\n<p id=\"8eca\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jf jg ii jh b ji jj jk jl jm jn jo jp jq jr js jt ju jv jw jx jy jz ka kb kc ib gj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">I scoured the Google search page for the data in Vietnam, but unfortunately, there are not any reports that provide an exact figure of how long Vietnamese employees have to spend on daily office commute by and large. Most of the people around me have at least once confessed a vain hope to stay home instead of driving to work, or lament the coming commute from work after an exhausting day. In fact, 25% of Vietnamese Gen Z say that not having a commute is what they love most when working from home. (Dreamplex &amp; Decision Lab \u2014 Gen Z &amp; The Workplace in Vietnam, 2021.)<\/p>\r\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]\r\n<h2 id=\"361f\" class=\"kt ku ii bo kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld le lf lg lh li lj lk ll lm ln lo lp lq gj\"><strong class=\"ba\">Commuting is not a choice<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;5658&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; add_caption=&#8221;yes&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221;][vc_column_text]\r\n<p id=\"f845\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jf jg ii jh b ji jj jk jl jm jn jo jp jq jr js jt ju jv jw jx jy jz ka kb kc ib gj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">I spent at least 2 hours\/day commuting to work in the past several years. That\u2019s what you have to exchange when living far from the city center. (If your home is at the prime location \u2014 congratulations!). Here are a few things I do to make my travel time more worthwhile:<\/p>\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"\">\r\n \t<li id=\"e4b7\" class=\"lr ls ii jh b ji jj jm jn jq lt ju lu jy lv kc lw lx ly lz gj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Schedule a route, the fastest one, with fewer traffic lights, a coffee shop on the way. Believe me, nothing makes you more frustrated than going around on the same path many times in the morning.<\/li>\r\n \t<li id=\"4112\" class=\"lr ls ii jh b ji ma jm mb jq mc ju md jy me kc lw lx ly lz gj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Explore new songs with the shuffle mode.<\/li>\r\n \t<li id=\"b813\" class=\"lr ls ii jh b ji ma jm mb jq mc ju md jy me kc lw lx ly lz gj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Acquiring knowledge through podcasts, audiobooks, and audio newspapers.<\/li>\r\n \t<li id=\"cc03\" class=\"lr ls ii jh b ji ma jm mb jq mc ju md jy me kc lw lx ly lz gj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">When the autopilot mode is on, that can be the time for meditation and deep thinking.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p id=\"2818\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jf jg ii jh b ji jj jk jl jm jn jo jp jq jr js jt ju jv jw jx jy jz ka kb kc ib gj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Although I have kept an optimistic attitude and tried many ways to value my commuting time, I still cannot dismiss this period of a day when I am dissatisfied the most in the driving state, my spine speaks up too!<\/p>\r\n<p id=\"ba19\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jf jg ii jh b ji jj jk jl jm jn jo jp jq jr js jt ju jv jw jx jy jz ka kb kc ib gj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Commute time is downtime, all you can do is passively receive. Wait, what about public transport?<\/p>\r\n<p id=\"62ab\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jf jg ii jh b ji jj jk jl jm jn jo jp jq jr js jt ju jv jw jx jy jz ka kb kc ib gj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Even if you really want to save energy for yourself and Mother Earth, waiting and sitting on the bus takes twice as much time as you drive yourself on your compact motorbike. Not to mention yet you may need a quick ride by bike to move in-between during the day, for food, for location change, or for whatever reason you cannot deny in the 2-wheel-favored cities.<\/p>\r\n<p id=\"7c95\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jf jg ii jh b ji jj jk jl jm jn jo jp jq jr js jt ju jv jw jx jy jz ka kb kc ib gj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">In terms of health, joint pain and backache are what you could experience when driving for a long time and without a back cushion. Racing with turtles up the bridge foot or cramming in the crowd surrounded by horns and smoke \u2014 is such a nightmare. In this case, many people choose to go to work really early or leave the office a bit later, which means more time jumps out of the window for no purpose. Quarantine directions allowed less traffic on the road. It\u2019s true to say the epidemic somehow addresses our problems a bit, isn\u2019t it?<\/p>\r\n<p id=\"c7ea\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jf jg ii jh b ji jj jk jl jm jn jo jp jq jr js jt ju jv jw jx jy jz ka kb kc ib gj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Not everyone has the conditions to live near the workplace or choose a job close to their home. The Harvard Business Review published some articles mentioning \u201ccommuter\u2019s bias\u201d to point out a quite common commute-related trap of townsfolk. When standing at the crossroads of job offers, many people are more likely to believe that they can drive longer distances in exchange for a higher salary and keep a spacious apartment yet away from the center. They often underestimate the disadvantages of wasting time, effort, and expense of traveling to work \u2014 the opportunity cost of better physical and mental well-being.<\/p>\r\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]\r\n<h2 id=\"9ac4\" class=\"kt ku ii bo kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc ld le lf lg lh li lj lk ll lm ln lo lp lq gj\"><strong class=\"ba\">When commuting becomes a choice<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Will the work remain at the same level of efficiency?[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;5660&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; add_caption=&#8221;yes&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221;][vc_column_text]\r\n<p id=\"5b69\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jf jg ii jh b ji jj jk jl jm jn jo jp jq jr js jt ju jv jw jx jy jz ka kb kc ib gj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">The pandemic has proven that almost every profession can transform online. Have you ever seen a doctor examine and prescribe a patient over the phone?<\/p>\r\n<p id=\"74b8\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jf jg ii jh b ji jj jk jl jm jn jo jp jq jr js jt ju jv jw jx jy jz ka kb kc ib gj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">The hybrid model comes as the future of work and also the key to daily long work commute problems.<\/p>\r\n<p id=\"23bf\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jf jg ii jh b ji jj jk jl jm jn jo jp jq jr js jt ju jv jw jx jy jz ka kb kc ib gj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">It empowers employees with the freedom to choose the most preferred time and place to work. People can work from home, at a coffee shop, or at the site closest to their place (if the company is big enough to have multiple headquarters in different regions, or they can be based in a coworking space and have access to all satellite offices -the common style nowadays.)<\/p>\r\n<p id=\"9fa6\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jf jg ii jh b ji jj jk jl jm jn jo jp jq jr js jt ju jv jw jx jy jz ka kb kc ib gj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Many reports are out to prove performance and productivity of employees increase when they work from home. Without being emotionally drained by emissions and traffic lights, most of them can start the workday earlier (then end it earlier). Otherwise, the time savings can be used for longer sleep in the morning or for personal interests instead. My two hours a day, which equates to more than 460 hours per year, exchange for a lot of free time for hobbies and personal care which makes me much happier and more relaxed.<\/p>\r\n<p id=\"9591\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jf jg ii jh b ji jj jk jl jm jn jo jp jq jr js jt ju jv jw jx jy jz ka kb kc ib gj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Wandering on Medium, I was caught by a\u00a0<a class=\"au ks\" href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/s\/please-advise\/the-commuting-conundrum-should-employers-fund-our-commute-4c7c0af6c56\" rel=\"noopener\">quote<\/a>\u00a0from author AJ Jones:<\/p>\r\n\r\n<blockquote class=\"mk ml mm\">\r\n<p id=\"69f8\" class=\"jf jg mn jh b ji jj jk jl jm jn jo jp mo jr js jt mp jv jw jx mq jz ka kb kc ib gj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">\u201cCommuting has symbolic value: It demonstrates an employee\u2019s loyalty and commitment to the organization. But when stripped to its core, commuting is nothing more than the sacrifice an employee makes to meet the conditions of their employment.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p id=\"4c16\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jf jg ii jh b ji jj jk jl jm jn jo jp jq jr js jt ju jv jw jx jy jz ka kb kc ib gj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">How can we make employees come to the office voluntarily and enjoy all the facilities provided?<\/p>\r\n<p id=\"0cdd\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jf jg ii jh b ji jj jk jl jm jn jo jp jq jr js jt ju jv jw jx jy jz ka kb kc ib gj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">To the point, the effective employee experience program exerts a crucial role. Even the best design gets stale after a while, but what stays in mind is how it feels. Very supportive. Comfortable. Connected. Some simple descriptions of feelings are made up of many different pieces like a puzzle, aiming to change the perception of coming to the workplace, from the obligation to the right to take job perks and benefits. By then, office time will carry more weight than the time it takes to get there.<\/p>\r\n<p id=\"f7c4\" class=\"pw-post-body-paragraph jf jg ii jh b ji jj jk jl jm jn jo jp jq jr js jt ju jv jw jx jy jz ka kb kc ib gj\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">At the end of the day, sacrifice or honor depends on each person\u2019s definition.
