AI, Gen Z, and Social Commerce: the Biggest Opportunities for Businesses in Vietnam in 2025

Thumb_Cover

As we step into 2025, Vietnam is on the brink of significant transformation.

The country’s rapid economic growth, advancements in AI, and increasing shift toward digital platforms are reshaping the way businesses operate and compete.

To explore how businesses can capitalize on these opportunities, we spoke with five experts: Ms. Thai Van Linh, CEO of Skills Bridge; Mr. Chris Elkin, Founder of Doodle Design; Mr. Soames Hines, CEO of Ogilvy Vietnam; Mr. Pawel Gorski, Co-Founder of Tribee.io; and Mr. Abishek Mathur, Founder of Potential Lab.

They shared these insights on the most significant opportunities awaiting Vietnamese businesses in 2025.

1. Leveraging AI for Productivity and Innovation

AI is no longer a futuristic concept—it’s becoming a core element of business operations. Across industries in Vietnam, companies are using AI to enhance productivity, drive creativity, and improve adaptability.

Ms. Thai Van Linh, CEO of Skills Bridge, emphasizes, “To thrive in the AI era, companies must equip professionals with the skills to use these tools, driving faster execution and fostering innovation.”

This reflects the growing understanding that AI’s power lies not just in automation but in empowering the workforce to achieve more.

Mr. Chris Elkin, Founder of Doodle Design, underscores the importance of integrating Design Thinking with AI. He explains, “Integrating Design Thinking with AI gives organizations an edge—reimagining customer experiences, empowering talent, and unlocking potential in sectors like finance, healthcare, and education.”

For instance, AI is enhancing diagnostics in healthcare, streamlining patient care, and improving fraud detection in finance. These industry-specific applications demonstrate how AI can address unique challenges and opportunities.

Mr. Soames Hines, CEO of Ogilvy Vietnam, points out how AI platforms like WPP Open are transforming marketing workflows. As Ogilvy Vietnam adopts WPP Open for key clients, the focus shifts from traditional influencer marketing to community-driven strategies, where trust and authenticity are paramount. This isn’t just about technology but about redefining how brands connect meaningfully with their audiences.

So far, 72% of organizations worldwide have already integrated AI into at least one business function, according to a 2024 McKinsey survey

Industries like healthcare (40% adoption), automotive (18%), finance, and manufacturing are using AI to improve diagnostics, efficiency, risk assessment, and quality control (Forbes, Tech Bullion, Computer Weekly).

In 2025, Vietnamese businesses that integrate AI strategically will experience significant boosts in efficiency, creativity, and customer engagement, setting new standards for innovation and competitiveness in Southeast Asia.

2. Unlocking the Potential of Gen Z

Vietnam’s young, dynamic workforce is more than just an asset—it’s a competitive advantage.

Mr. Pawel Gorski, Co-Founder & CEO of Tribee.io, notes, “Vietnam’s big chance in 2025 is leveraging AI to empower its young, talented workforce to achieve more with less. Motivated and quick to adapt, these professionals are already excelling in software development, marketing, and beyond.”

Mr. Pawel Gorski

A 2024 PwC Asia Pacific Workforce Hopes and Fears Survey reveals that 71% of Vietnamese employees feel they can fully showcase their skills, and 75% believe their employers support skills development.

Additionally, a 2024 Michael Page Vietnam report shows that 36% of Vietnamese employees actively use AI tools in their roles. Whether streamlining operations or enhancing creativity, this generation’s adaptability ensures they remain ahead in a competitive global market.

Investing in upskilling and providing access to advanced tools is essential for unlocking Vietnam’s Gen Z potential. This isn’t just about adopting technology but fostering a culture of innovation and adaptability for long-term success.

With the enthusiasm and adaptability of Gen Z, 2025 is set to be a year where young Vietnamese professionals propel businesses forward, combining fresh perspectives and digital fluency to make Vietnam a standout hub for innovation.

3. Social Commerce: The New Frontier of Consumer Engagement

As shopping behaviors evolve, social commerce is emerging as a game-changer in Vietnam.

Mr. Abishek Mathur, Founder of Potential Lab and former Chief People Officer at VNG, describes social commerce as a space where “eCommerce blends with social entertainment,” with platforms like Facebook, TikTok, and Shopee driving this trend.

Unlike traditional online shopping, social commerce merges engagement and convenience, offering a seamless experience that resonates with today’s consumers.

Mr. Soames Hines highlights how AI enhances social commerce by enabling personalized and efficient marketing workflows. He observes, “The shift from influencer marketing to community marketing is redefining consumer trust. Authentic engagement, powered by AI tools, fosters deeper connections and builds loyalty.” In other words, it’s not just about selling products but creating meaningful interactions that foster long-term relationships.

According to Decision Lab, 46% of Vietnamese consumers have adopted social commerce in the past two to five years, driven by platforms like TikTok and Shopee. Using AI to analyze consumer behavior and tailor experiences will help businesses thrive in this dynamic space.
